Heating and cooling companies, graded

A system sized for a 70° climate struggles at 115°, so ask anyone you call how they size the unit (a load calculation, not the old tonnage). Check the ROC licence number they list before you sign, and book summer work early: by July most of these companies are running days behind. Grades come from public information only. How we grade.

How to choose a pro in the Valley

Start with the ROC number. Arizona requires a Registrar of Contractors licence for HVAC work over the handyman limit, and most companies print theirs on the site. We show it exactly as listed and link to the ROC search, so you can confirm it is active and belongs to the company in a minute.

Then ask how they will size the system. In Phoenix an oversized unit cools the air fast but leaves the house clammy and cycles itself to an early grave; an undersized one runs all afternoon in July and still loses. A company that runs a load calculation (Manual J) before quoting a replacement is doing the job properly.

Finally, get it in writing: the diagnostic fee, whether it is waived when you go ahead, the labour warranty, and what “24/7” means at 2 am in August. Profiles quote what each company says about all of this, with the page it came from.
